Tibet's highland barley output saw over 700,000 tons for three consecutive years

According to the official figures, the amount of annual Tibetan food production has maintained over one million tons for three consecutive years, thereinto, the annual output of highland barley has kept stabilized around 700,000 tons, which ensures the food safety.

Highland barley has been the most important crop and staple food ingredient in Tibet for thousands of years.

In 2017, the planting area of highland barley reached 2.1 million mu (140,000 hectares) in Tibet Autonomous Region, accounting for 60 percent of the total in China. Besides, the output of highland barley in Tibet Autonomous Region takes up 70 percent of the total amount of barely harvest in China.

70,000 tons of highland barley was processed into various finished products such as vinegar and biscuits.

In 2017, five tons of highland barley were shipped from China's Tibet to America.

In 2018, the output of highland barley will surpass 800,000 tons, with the planting area expected to be added to 2.11 million mu (about 140,667 hectares). "Zangqing 2000" highland barley , "Himalaya 22" highland barley and "Dongqing 18" highland barley will be spread.
