Tibet's first autonomous region-level economic zone approved

Qamdo New Area, established in April 2013, is a new economic zone about 90 kilometers from Bangda Airport located in Qamdo of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region. Sichuan-Tibet railway, G214 and Bangda Airport-Qamdo highway will stretch through here. With convenient transportation, Qamdo New Area becomes the first autonomous region-level economic zone in China's Tibet.

Qamdo New Area will focus on the development of bio-pharmaceutical industry, new energy, health, agricultural products with highland characteristics, national handicraft, cultural tourism, modern logistics and high-end service. Up to now, there are almost 400 companies in Qamdo New Area.

It is expected that there will be more than 1,000 companies in 2020, contributing over 60 percent of Qamdo's tax income.
