To implement the Belt and Road Initiative, comprehensively open wider to the outside world, improve the transport condition, promote the economic development in 4·25 earthquake hit areas and resume trade between China and Nepal, a restoration and reconstruction project of China-Nepal Friendship Bridge at Xigaze's Zham Port has been included in the post-disaster reconstruction projects last year.

According to Tibet Tianshun Road & Bridge Engineering Co., Ltd., in 2015, being affected by the "4·25" earthquake in Nepal, Zham China-Nepal Friendship Bridge has been seriously damaged and not able to carry the normal traffic any more. Since September 2018, reconstruction of this bridge has been resumed, with a scheduled period of 8 months. Up to now, main body of the bridge has been completed, which is expected to be totally completed and opened to traffic by the end of May this year.

Zham China-Nepal Friendship Bridge, a bridge connecting the friendship of the Chinese and Nepali people, is necessary for resuming customs clearance at Xigaze's Zham Port in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region. Nepal and China are both multi-cultural and multi-ethnic countries; restoration of the bridge has played a very important role in promoting China-Nepal tourism, cultural exchanges, as well as economic & trade cooperation. Resuming the earthquake-damaged Zham Port is a consensus formed and stressed for many times in leaders meetings of China and Nepal.
