Located in Riwoqe County, Qamdo City of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, "Khampa Huadu" (a place famous for beautiful flowers) lies about 8 kilometers away from the county center, is closely next to the National Highway 214 with convenient transportation. Moreover, it is a tourist attraction famous for its unique natural scenery with sea of flowers, grasslands, wetlands and others.

"In the past, there was no clean road and all kinds of garbage were scattered everywhere in our village. Villagers were dressed in tattered clothes, and no one came here. In recent years, the whole town has actively carried out rural construction and promoted the governance of living environment, bringing earth-shaking changes in rural landscape," says Sonam Tsewang, a worker of Tarlag Tong Village Committee.

In recent years, local government has invested 4.6 million yuan RMB and successfully built a "Khampa Huadu" eco-tourism village at Tarlag Tong Village. Featuring Tibetan happy farmhouses and tent camps, it has driven 416 local people from 81 households to participate in tourism management and helped 89 people from 23 impoverished households increase their income and become rich.

"After gaining the benefits of eco-tourism, villagers have soon realized the importance of rural environmental protection and willingly participated in the work of improving living environment. Every Friday, all villagers carry out cleaning to houses, sheds, roads and others. In addition, 3-5 environmentalists take turns to clean the village's garbage every day", says Tashi Detsun, the first secretary of the Communist Party branch of Tarlag Tong Village.

In order to effectively promote the governance of living environment and build beautiful and clean countryside, members of village committee post up leaflets on the governance of living environment in conspicuous positions, such as garbage dumps, collection places, and public toilets.

As the village becomes beautiful, more and more tourists come here. The village has established a model of "Party Branch--farmers and herdsmen" to develop its collective economy. In addition, relying on the advantages of local resources, it has vigorously launched projects of yak and Tibetan pig breeding to promote industrial development. Currently, local collective economy has brought more than 1.8 million yuan RMB of income to the whole village annually, with a per capita income exceeding 3,200 yuan RMB.

"We will continue to carry out the governance of living environment, develop and expand the collective economy, so as to build a beautiful and leisure village", Tashi Detsun is confident about the village's future.
