Lhasa: spring sowing area expected to exceed 380 km²

There is a saying that goes, "Plan your year in spring." Farmers have begun to prepare for the spring plowing as the temperature warms up. An area of 381.8 km²is planned to be sowed in Lhasa City, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous region, this spring, 266.67 km² of which is planned to be sown with grain. The city has transported fertilizers, ordered pesticides and satisfied the need of improved varieties to ensure the completion of targets.

Despite the unpredictable weather, farmers still strive to make full preparations for spring plowing and sowing. The selection of breeds is an important process; 17 agricultural experts have been assigned in batches to offer technical guidance.

On March 5, workers of Maizhokunggar County's Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs were busy with buying "Xila 22" seeds in Tanggya Town of Maizhokunggar County, Lhasa City, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region. Maizhokunggar County is expected to purchase 300,000 kg of "Xila 22" seeds. Up to now, it has bought about 100,000 kg. "All 'Xila 22' seeds will be given to the public before the spring sowing, in order to ensure this year's production," says a worker of Maizhokunggar County's Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

Currently, there are 19.2 tons of general pesticides, 1,765 tons of fertilizers within a planned range; 16,040 agricultural machines and tools have been maintained in Lhasa City.

"To ensure a good harvest, this year's plantation work continues to focus on grain production security, with the improvement of people's living standards and the income growth at the core. Lhasa's spring plowing ritual is to be held on March 16. Seeding of the city will start from March 25, being expected to be completed in mid or late May,” says a worker from Lhasa's Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
