"Ridging, planting vegetables, fertilizing..." Now, 53-year-old Metog Palkyi, a villager from Cheba Village, Lhunze Town, Lhunze County, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, is handy to do farm work. However, she wasn't good at it, and wasn't familiar with planting vegetables in greenhouse before.

In the past, she lived with her daughter, planted 6,133 m² of land, and bred 16 sheep, yet her only annual income was 2,500 yuan RMB from state subsidies for returning farmland to forests, grassland subsidies as well as grain supplement. In 2016, her family was registered as a poor household in the village.

"Town and village cadres repeatedly publicize poverty alleviation policies and encourage me." She says. "Actually, I wanted to live a better life but didn't know how to do it. With their help, I changed my mind and found my way."

After moving to the county's poverty alleviation relocation site, she found jobs in a vegetable planting base with the help of local Party committee and the government. "Before, I only saw these greenhouses from afar, and didn't know what they looked like inside. In the vegetable planting base, I learned to farm scientifically," says Metog Palkyi.

In 2017, after a year's hard work, her family successfully got rid of poverty. "In the past, my family's annual income was only 2,500 yuan RMB, but now it has exceeded 16,000 yuan RMB." She says.

Now, her daughter Tashi Palkyi is admitted to a university, which makes them very happy. "Fortunately, with the fixed income from working in the vegetable base, I can afford my daughter's college tuition and living expenses." She says, "Thanks to the Party's good policies on poverty alleviation, giving my family such a good life."
