With an investment of 13.9 million yuan RMB, Nyemo County's Lhasa City, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomosu Region Edible (Medicinal) put its Fungi Planting Base use in in September of 2018. Now, there are various fungi at the base, such as morchella esculenta, hericium erinaceus, pleurotus nebrodensis and oyster mushrooms. The annual output is about 650,000 kg, valuing at 4.1 million yuan RMB.
Taking morchella esculenta for example, as it is popular among customers, Nyemo County has planted it in greenhouses of its planting base, Dongkar Village, Nirong Village and Xoimai Town, covering an area of 30 mu (20,000 m²), with an output value of 7500 kg. This large-scale production needs 30 workers every day. Now, with advanced plantation techniques and better market prospect, there is an increasing demand for morchella esculenta. This year, its planting area is expected to exceed 100 mu (66666.67 m²), which will not only meet the market demand, but also boost local income.
Dorje has studied the plantation technique here since last year. "At the base, I learn fungi-related plantation techniques. In addition, when the fungi are mature, the base will purchase them. I earn over 3,000 yuan RMB every month and receive a dividend at the end of the year," he says.
Over the past two years, the base helped 86 people get rid of poverty and created jobs for 66 poor people. The number of staff working here exceeded 2,500. Last year, 98 villagers, who had been lifted out of poverty, received a total of 255,000 yuan RMB dividend.
Next, it will focus on developing high-end deep processing industry. Online and offline sales will further drive the local economic development and promote the formation of an edible fungi industrial chain.
