Recently, a new round of greening project for north and south mountains of Lhasa City has started. Chinese pine, ansu apricot and other trees suitable for plateau will be planted in five counties in Lhasa City and Shannan City, with a planted afforestation area of 97,000 mu (about 65 square kilometers).
The greening project for north and south mountains of Lhasa City is the largest afforestation project in Xizang. In 2022, Lhasa completed 558,700 mu (about 372 square kilometers) of afforestation, and more than 1.68 million people were employed as a result of ecological improvements in forests and grasses.
