Four ancient tree groups in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region were listed among the 100 most beautiful ancient tree groups in China, and one ancient giant cypress was listed among the 10 most beautiful cypress trees in the country during an ancient tree selection campaign.

Since July this year, the Office of the National Greening Committee launched a campaign on ancient and famous trees. A total of 100 of the most beautiful ancient trees as well as 100 of the most beautiful ancient tree groups were selected, to display and publicize the rich historical and cultural connotations of ancient and famous trees in China, the extraordinary natural beauty and the typical protection practices of ancient and famous trees in various places, as well as to raise public awareness of protection and promote harmonious coexistence between man and nature.

Xizang attaches great importance to the protection of ancient and famous tree resources, and has completed the second survey of ancient and famous tree resources and carried out preliminary protection work in 2018. According to the results of the 2018 census, there were about 38,600 ancient and famous trees of 80 kinds in Xizang, mostly growing between 2700 and 4300 meters above sea level in scattered distribution, more than 95% of the ancient trees distributed in the countryside and in the wild state.
