BEIJING, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Zheng Shanjie, director of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), reviewed the economic situation in advancing the building of the Chinese modernization at a symposium on Tuesday.
"Since the beginning of this year, China has withstood external pressure and overcome internal difficulties, with the economy recovering and showing a sound momentum on the whole," Zheng said.
He underlined that the country is on track to meet its primary targets for economic and social development this year and that it has made good progress in high-quality development, and taken solid measures toward fully constructing a modern socialist country.
The NDRC head stated that it is necessary to stabilize expectations, enhance confidence, and accurately assess the situation and trends faced by China's economic development.
While acknowledging the challenges and conflicts confronting Chinese economic development, Zheng also emphasized favorable conditions such as strategic opportunities provided by the technological revolution and industrial transformation, as well as the Chinese economy's resilience and potential.
"We have the confidence, ability, conditions, and confidence to continue to improve the economic structure, strengthen growth drivers, and maintain a sound development momentum," the official said.
He said that the NDRC will strengthen macro-control, continue to promote an effective rise in quality and reasonable growth in quantity in the Chinese economy, and make greater contributions to building China into a strong country and realizing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through a Chinese path to modernization.
