In recent years, the government of southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region has been continuously strengthening efforts in wildlife conservation, leading to a noticeable increase in the population sizes of the vast majority of protected species. Surveys indicate that there are 1,072 species of terrestrial vertebrates in Xizang, including 246 species of wildlife under national key protection, 68 species of first-class nationally protected wildlife, and 178 species of second-class nationally protected wildlife.
