Recently, Professor Pan Zhaohui’s team from Xizang Agriculture and Animal Husbandry University has discovered two new insect species of the Lymantriinae subfamily in Xizang for the first time: Nyingchi Tussock Moth and Medog Tussock Moth. Many species of tussock moths are notorious pests, and human contact with their venomous hairs and secretions can cause dermatitis, ophthalmia, and upper respiratory tract inflammation. Southeastern Xizang boasts an extremely rich insect resources, and the discovery of multiple new species in Nyingchi City indicates that the region has excellent ecological conservation and abundant species diversity.
