Relying on the advantages of unified regulation of the national power grid and optimized resource allocation of the national electricity market, and with strong support from the Beijing Electricity Trading Center, as well as the Northwest and Southwest Branches of State Grid, Xizang's green electricity trading volume exceeded 100 million kWh for the first time in mid-May, according to State Grid Xizang Electric Power Co., Ltd.

By the end of 2024, Xizang has witnessed rapid growth in the installed capacity of new energy sources such as photovoltaic and wind power, with the installed capacity proportion of new energy exceeding 50%. A clean energy system dominated by new energy has taken shape in the region.

This year, in an effort to comprehensively enhance the consumption and utilization levels of new energy, Xizang's power sector has conducted surveys on local green electricity demand, appropriately expanded the scale of green electricity trading within the region, and organized four bilateral green electricity transactions based on the grid's consumption capacity. As a result, 14 power generation entities have increased their new energy output by 79 million kWh, with a total of 33 participating power-consuming users.

Meanwhile, taking advantage of the surplus capacity of the Qinghai-Xizang Power Transmission and Transformation Project and the Sichuan-Xizang Power Transmission and Transformation Project, Xizang's power sector has organized three centralized bidding transactions for green electricity delivered to Beijing, Jiangsu, and Anhui, with a total traded volume of 27 million kWh. This has contributed to a reduction of 20,600 tonnes in carbon dioxide emissions and generated economic benefits of 6 million yuan for Xizang.

It is understood that Xizang's power sector will continue to expand the market scale by leveraging the construction of the national unified electricity market, deepen the construction of the green electricity and green certificate service system, and persistently explore the field of green electricity trading.
