On June 22, the First "China's Xizang Connections · Culture Week" Cultural Salon was successfully held in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Centered around the theme of "The Role of Media in Deepening Inter-civilizational Exchanges and Mutual Learning," the event attracted over fifty participants from the media, academic, and cultural sectors of both China and Nepal, contributing wisdom to the construction of a cross-cultural communication bridge.

The event kicked off with the melodious tunes of the traditional Tibetan dance "Dance of the Heavenly Lake". The dancers, with their agile movements, showcased the grandeur of the plateau and the profound cultural heritage of the Xizang people, instantly igniting the atmosphere. Nepalese audience members expressed that the dance not only displayed the unique charm of Xizang culture but also conveyed the shared aspirations of the Chinese and Nepalese peoples for a better life.

At the venue, Luo Jun, Head of the China Xizang Delegation and Vice President of the Xizang International Culture Association of China, delivered a speech. He pointed out that amidst the accelerating changes of the century, inter-civilizational exchanges and mutual learning are a necessity of the times. As a crucial bridge for information dissemination and cultural exchanges, media serves as the "ferryman" of civilizational dialogues, shouldering the responsibility of breaking down cultural barriers and bridging cognitive gaps. Taking Xizang media as an example, Luo Jun elaborated on its active contributions in promoting inter-civilizational exchanges and mutual learning: Xizang media not only disseminates the fine traditional culture of Xizang through documentaries, special programs, etc., allowing the world to appreciate its charm, but also actively builds platforms for cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and Nepal, organizing various cultural exchange activities to enhance friendship between the two peoples. Meanwhile, it focuses on using objective data to tell the story of Xizang's development and convey the concept of peaceful development. Facing new situations, Luo Jun proposed innovative paths, including strengthening content creation innovation, deepening international media cooperation, cultivating a professional talent pool, and using vivid stories to evoke empathy and resonance, in order to drive media to play a greater role in inter-civilizational exchanges and mutual learning.

Li Chengye from China Xizang Daily and Cering Songja from China Xizang International Communication Center delivered speeches titled "Strengthening Media Cooperation Between China and Nepal to Foster Friendly Ties" and "Deepen Cultural Exchanges and Build Bridges for Mutual Learning" respectively. Li Chengye noted that digital technology has brought about media transformations, and there is great potential for China-Nepal media cooperation. The two sides are geographically close, culturally connected, and have close trade ties. He suggested focusing on each other's development achievements, individual struggle stories, and cutting-edge technologies, and deepening cooperation through methods such as exchanging journalists, jointly producing programs, and developing interactive products to promote China-Nepal friendship.

During the keynote speech session, Chinese and Nepalese experts and scholars focused on the theme of "Leveraging the Role of Media in Deepening Inter-civilizational Exchanges and Mutual Learning." Professor Zhan Xun from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, pointed out that media is an important bridge for inter-civilizational exchanges, but there are practical gaps in current Nepal-China media cooperation, such as imbalanced content dissemination and insufficient technological adaptation. She proposed adhering to the concept of "empathetic communication", unearthing the shared cultural values between China and Nepal, and using the successful case of "Xizang Panorama" to illustrate its feasibility. In addition, she provided specific paths for deepening Nepal-China media cooperation from dimensions such as jointly building a media convergence platform, deepening content cooperation, establishing a talent exchange mechanism, activating folk narratives, expanding Xizang-related communication projects, and empowering youth participation through technology. Nirmala Sharma, President of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists, noted that media is not only a mirror of society but also a tool for social engineering. It should tell stories of shared heritage, resilience, creativity, and collaboration to activate thelink of civilizational exchanges. Ke Shao, Chairman of the Nepal-China Media Forum, called for reviving and enriching the ancient dialogues between China and Nepal through innovative forms such as joint documentaries, podcast networks, and online archives, making media a bridge for civilizational co-creation. Gagan Bishta, Commissioner of the Nepal Information Commission, emphasized from the perspective of professional responsibility that media should adhere to the principles of objectivity and impartiality in information dissemination. In the current era of information overload and the proliferation of false information, it should create a rational and inclusive public opinion environment for civilizational exchanges, making media a trust bridge for enhancing China-Nepal civilizational mutual learning.

Co-organized by relevant institutions from both China and Nepal, this cultural salon not only provided a platform for intellectual exchanges among media professionals from the two countries but also injected new impetus into deepening China-Nepal people-to-people exchanges and promoting mutual understanding between the hearts and minds of the two peoples.
