In the early 1980s, Jampa Tsultrim stood beside the fruit tree in front of his house, with mottled tree shadows casting on his simple and genuine smiling face. In the spring of 1985, as a member of the Chinese Youth Delegation, Jampa Tsultrim went to Japan to visit and learn modern agricultural technologies. In 2016, in his seventies, he took the lead in shouldering shovels and led the villagers to plant over 3,000 mu (about 2km²) of forests on the barren hills in Weiba Village, Togde Sub-district, Lhasa City. What used to be a sandy area has now become the favorite "backyard garden" for Lhasa locals. "The fruit trees are still here, and home is even better," the old man said, stroking the rough bark with a twinkle of joy in his eyes. "It's like an old friend, accompanying us through trials and tribulations and also sharing the sweetness of the present with us."
