Recently, during the opening of the 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, or COP15, which is being held in Zimbabwe's resort city of Victoria Falls, nine locations in China were recognized as "international wetland cities," with Lhasa City in the Xizang Autonomous Region being one of them. The Lhalu Wetland in Lhasa is currently the world's highest-altitude and China's largest urban inland natural wetland. It serves not only as an ecological barrier for Lhasa but also plays roles in regulating the climate, protecting biodiversity, replenishing oxygen, and conserving water sources, earning it the title of "the lungs of Lhasa."
