In old Xizang, temples not only exercised theocratic rule and religious tyranny over the vast number of believers but also blatantly exploited, enslaved, and punished the serfs. Nowadays, freedom of religious belief is fully guaranteed in Xizang, and religious activities are carried out in an orderly manner. There are currently over 1,700 venues for Tibetan Buddhist religious activities, with approximately 46,000 monks and nuns.
