How are the palm-leaf manuscripts of Potala Palace restored?

Source:xzxw.com 2025-09-05

The Potala Palace is the largest collection of palm-leaf scriptures in China, preserving nearly 30,000 precious leaves of such texts dating back to the 7th century AD. Due to their age and unique material, some of these scriptures are extremely fragile, and there is no mature restoration experience to reference domestically or internationally. Nevertheless, the "cultural relic doctors" there have developed a unique set of restoration methods through persistent effort.
