Zhangmu cattle are a unique and precious livestock genetic resource exclusive to Xizang. In 2021, it was systematically confirmed that only 19 individuals of this cattle breed remained, indicating an extremely high level of endangerment. This year, a scientific research team undertook an attempt to produce cloned cattle on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. In May, a cloned female Zhangmu calf was successfully born and has been growing up healthily. Currently, the population size of Zhangmu cattle has increased from 19 to 37.
