At around 9 a.m. on January 1, trucks from Nepal slowly entered the Gyirong Port in Xizang's Xigaze City, via the temporary bridge from the Rasuwagadhi Port in Nepal. In the nearby passenger inspection hall, travelers from both countries started clearing customs in an orderly manner. This marked the resumption of operations at the Gyirong-Rasuwagadhi Port between China and Nepal.

Located in Gyirong Town, Gyirong County, Xigaze City, Xizang, the Gyirong Port is a land port for China's opening-up to South Asia. In 2024, the trade volume of goods supervised and cleared at the Gyirong Port reached 4.248 billion yuan, ranking first among all ports in Xizang and accounting for nearly 30% of the total trade between China and Nepal.

At around 5 a.m. on July 8, 2025, the water level of the Donglin Zangpo River in Gyirong County, Xizang, surged, destroying the Gyirong Port’s Rasuwa Bridge (Friendship Bridge). This forced the suspension of bilateral personnel exchanges and goods trade at the Gyirong Port.

According to reports, after the disaster, Chinese governments at all levels organized efforts in an orderly manner to carry out various tasks for restoring customs clearance at the port. Nepalese governments at all levels closely coordinated and actively supported the smooth progress of the projects.

At the passenger inspection channel of the Gyirong Port, tour guide Chen Zhengwei, who frequently travels between China and Nepal, shared his joy,"during the port closure, I had to detour to other ports for exit and entry, which not only increased travel costs but was also quite inconvenient. With the resumption of customs clearance at the Gyirong Port, crossing the border has become much more convenient."

Nepalese truck driver Roxidsaid, "with China's completion of the temporary bridge, I can now continuethe transportation work at the port. I now have a stable income again, and I am grateful to China."

Tenzin Chosphel, deputy director of the Gyirong Border Economic Cooperation Zone Management Committee, said, "we will continuously optimize services, strengthen cooperation with surrounding ports, the Xigaze Land Port, and the Lhasa Comprehensive Bonded Zone, build an efficient logistics network, provide strong support for enterprises, and contribute to the joint economic development of both countries."
