The Fourth Session of the 12th Xizang Autonomous Regional Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and the Fourth Session of the 12th Xizang Autonomous Regional People's Congress opened in Lhasa on January 30 and 31, respectively. Laxmi Prasad Niraula, Consul General of Nepal in Lhasa, was invited to observe the opening meetings of the sessions. During this period, Niraula accepted an exclusive interview with our reporter, highly praising Xizang's development achievements.

"In China, the political system and democratic institutions are continuously developing and improving. At the site of Xizang's two sessions, deputies and committee members from different ethnic groups and communities gathered to discuss plans for development," said Niraula, who was deeply impressed by the pragmatic, open, and democratic atmosphere of Xizang's two sessions.

As a diplomat invited to observe Xizang's two sessions for two consecutive years, Niraula has personally witnessed the remarkable achievements Xizang has made in infrastructure construction, economic development, and improvement of people's livelihoods. "The Chinese government has done very well, achieving great success in a short period, particularly in infrastructure such as road construction, railways, aviation, and large-scale buildings," Niraula said.

What moved Niraula even more was that the fruits of development have truly benefited the people. "I see that the people in Xizang are very happy, and their faces are always lit up with happy smiles." This  observation reflects the strong sense of gain, happiness, and security among the people of Xizang.

On January 20 this year, The Third Meeting of the China-Nepal Coordination Mechanismon Border Trade and Cooperation was held in Lhasa. The two sides extensively exchanged views and reached important consensus on matters such as bilateral trade and cross-border facilitation, trade infrastructure construction, and border trade investment and cooperation. In recent years, border trade between Xizang Autonomous Regionand Nepal has shown positive interaction. In the first half of 2025, the total import and export value between Xizang and Nepal reached 2.19 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 22.1%.

"Nepal and China are neighbors, and we enjoy good relations. China is Nepal's second-largest trading partner, and Nepal relies to some extent on Chinese business and trade."

Speaking about expectations for the future, Niraula believes that the rapid development of Xizang Autonomous Regionwill bring development opportunities to Nepal. "In the future, the Nepali people will continue to maintain good relations with the people of Xizang, benefiting from each other's practices, development, and culture." Niraula looks forward to China-Nepal cooperation reaching new heights.
