From burning cow dung to photovoltaic heating: The "sunshine magic" of Xizang families

Source:xzxw.com 2026-03-17

Xizang Autonomous Region of China has a high altitude, low air pressure and a cold climate. Conventional energy sources such as coal and natural gas are scarce and extremely costly to transport. For a long time, burning cow dung for heating has been the main way for most local residents to keep warm in winter. Following more than two decades of technical research by the scientific research team of Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology, a number of clean heating projects based on solar energy have been successively built in Xizang. The long-standing reliance on cow dung for heating in these areas is becoming a thing of the past.
