On August 30, 2025, the first-ever daycare center for the elderly in Medog County, Xizang, officially opened. This "silver-hair happy hub" has addressed long-standing issues such as difficulty accessing hot meals, lack of companionship, and inadequate care for many seniors. Within just a few months of operation, the center has served over 27,000 elderly visits and delivered more than 2,000 meal services to those with limited mobility, truly becoming a "second home" for the local aging population.
Entering the center, the aroma of freshly cooked meals wafts from the first-floor dining hall. Every day, staff prepare balanced, nutritious hot meals tailored to the elderly's tastes and health needs, including braised meat, stir-fried dishes, soups, and porridges. For seniors who have difficulty walking or cannot come to the center, staff deliver meals to their homes, ensuring they can enjoy a warm meal even while staying indoors.
The second floor is a "joyful paradise" for the elderly. Some sit together playing cards and chatting, their laughter never ending; others sing and dance in the recreation room; still others exercise on massage chairs or treadmills in the rehabilitation area. The center is equipped with basic rehabilitation devices and various cultural-recreational facilities. Whether one wants to stay active or find an interesting pastime, there is something for everyone—no one needs to feel lonely at home anymore.
On the third floor, the rest area is neatly arranged with comfortable beds and staff on duty around the clock. When seniors feel tired, they can lie down and rest; if they experience any physical discomfort, they can receive prompt assistance. This arrangement greatly eases the worries of their adult children.
Today, the Medog County Daycare Center has become a popular "happy check-in spot" for local seniors. It not only relieves the caregiving burden on families but also collects health information and service needs, laying the groundwork for more targeted care in the future.
Medog County will continue to optimize the center's services. On one hand, it plans to expand meal delivery coverage so that more seniors in remote villages and communities can enjoy hot meals; on the other hand, it will upgrade the second-floor functional zones, with the goal of opening a community-based senior university and adding more "multi-use room" service programs. The aim is to provide quality services to all residents aged 60 and above in the county. At the same time, the county will strengthen staff training to improve service levels, ensuring that the elderly are properly cared for, recreationally amused, and culturally updated in this "happy hub of happiness".
