In Group 5 of DongkarVillage, NyemoTownship, NyemoCounty, Xizang, at an altitude of 4,500 meters, villager Phurbu Drolma finally managed to make a video call to her son, who works in Lhasa. The affectionate "Mom" on the screen instantly brought tears to the elderly woman's eyes. Recently, the remote and isolated Group 5 of DongkarVillage bid farewell to its long history of no mobile signal. The driving force behind this change was the concrete practice of the NyemoTownship Party Committee and Government, who moved their office to the deep mountain ravines and delivered services to the doorsteps of the people.
NyemoTownship administers seven administrative villages. The farthest, Group 5 of DongkarVillage, is over 40 kilometers from the township government, connected by rugged and bumpy mountain roads that become particularly treacherous in rainy or snowy weather. Due to its remote location and weak infrastructure, the area had long suffered from a lack of mobile signal, causing great inconvenience to the lives and production of the local people.
The issues that trouble and distress the people are precisely the main focus of grassroots work. Since the beginning of this year, the NyemoTownship Party Committee and Government have been intensively carrying out a special initiative to resolve people's concerns through front-line office work.
In Qulin Village, a research team visited 79-year-old Metog. The elderly woman has difficulty walking and used to have to walk downhill for 20 minutes each day to fetch water. "In winter, the road is so slippery I can't keep my footing. I've fallen several times," Metogsaid. The team took notes and, more importantly, kept her situation close to their hearts.
The kindergarten in Nyeyu Village reported that its cement playground surface was too hard, making it easy for children to bump or graze themselves while running and playing. The kindergarten in Nirong Village experienced problems with aging electrical circuits and frequent tripping, jeopardizing heating in winter. Each of these seemingly small livelihood issues was registered and sorted out one by one. Within a week, officials had visited all administrative villages in the township and collected 27 public concerns. The township held an overnight review meeting, devising a specific plan for each problem and clarifying responsible parties, timelines, and roadmaps.
With the support of the NyemoCounty Party Committee and Government, over 2 million yuan in project funds were secured. During construction, NyemoTownship assigned dedicated personnel to monitor progress on-site, coordinating solutions to logistical challenges such as material transportation and electrical connection. The day the main structure of the base station was completed, villagers spontaneously brought butter tea and tsampa to the construction site to express their gratitude.
The drinking water project in Qulin Village also faced difficulties. On-site surveys by technicians revealed that the water source was located in a mountain stream 3 kilometers behind the village, with a significant elevation drop, and laying the pipeline required passing through a rocky area. The township enlisted water conservancy experts to optimize the route and organized a party member teamto assist with the construction. After more than 40 days of arduous work, clear mountain spring water reached every household.
Once the hardware was built, the question became how to ensure its long-term functionality. NyemoTownship's approach was to "hand over the keys without letting go."
After water was supplied to Qulin Village, the township helped each village group establish a water facility management and protection system, clarifying responsible individuals and scheduling regular inspections and maintenance.
After 50 new computers were installed at NyemoTownship Central Primary School, the township coordinated with the NyemoCounty Education Bureau to arrange for information technology teachers to provide regular on-site guidance, ensuring the equipment was not left idle and was genuinely useful.
According to statistics, since the beginning of this year, through its on-site front-line office work, NyemoTownship has secured over 3.5 million yuan in project funding, resolved 21 urgent and pressing issues for the people, and achieved a public satisfaction rate of 98.6%. The "mobile office" in the deep mountain valleys has truly delivered thoughtful services straight to the people's hearts.
