Guo Zhaocheng, Senior Engineer of China Aero Geophysical Survey and Remote Sensing Center for Natural Resources:
Our speculation is that a high-altitude ice avalanche-debris flow occurred in the Cuojian River, a tributary located in Nepal. It scraped and carried the moraine materials in the gully, then moved at extremely high speed downstream along the Guobaxiaqu and Donglin Tsangpo Gully, before finally impacting the Gyirong Port. It traveled roughly 20 kilometers in only 7 minutes from its initiation to reaching the port, which represents an extremely high movement speed.
