Travelling 2,228 kilometres across the land, 26‑year‑old Tibetan girl Gense Chaggar journeyed from the western Sichuan Province to the shores of the Bohai Sea to pursue her PhD at Nankai University. She is the first university graduate in her family, the first master's degree holder in her village, and now the first PhD student.
