In the Changtang region of northern Xizang, primary and secondary school students in Sog County are using digital painting tools and programming platforms to tell stories of the plateau through their AI-powered works. At the recently concluded 4th Nagqu Municipal "Changtang Youth Digital Creation" Competition for primary and secondary schools, 52 students from Sog County participated, taking home 6 first prizes, 20 second prizes and 5 third prizes.
Sog County is one of the "Three Eastern Counties" of Nagqu City, with an average altitude of over 4,000 meters. Founded in 2024, Sog County No. 2 Secondary School is the local pilot school for artificial intelligence education, currently with 1,539 enrolled students. Since 2025, the school has launched featured AI courses for 7th graders, integrating AI technology into information technology classrooms.
"From initial curious exploration, students have gradually mastered basic applications, with their scientific and innovative capabilities steadily improving," shared Rigzin Drakpa, Vice Principal for Academic Affairs at Sog County No. 2 Secondary School. He noted that students from the school have repeatedly participated in regional, municipal and national digital science and innovation competitions, earning numerous honors.
According to Dhundrup Namgyal, head of informatization at the Sog County Education Bureau, the local area has achieved full coverage of the dedicated education network. Formal teaching of basic computer skills and block-based programming has been offered starting from the 3rd grade of primary school, and a full rollout of the Mind+ curriculum — a block-based programming tool designed for teenagers — is planned for 2026. AI technology also supports the development of Tibetan-language course lesson plans, with relevant applications covering multiple subjects including mathematics and fine arts.
"At science and innovation interest classes, students create digital works such as mini-games with their own hands, exercising their logical thinking," said Awang Jiumei, an information technology teacher at Sog County No. 2 Secondary School. He added that the engaging, fun-filled classes fully ignite children's enthusiasm for learning, broadening the scientific and innovative horizons of students on the plateau.
With the help of an AI platform, student Lobsang Dargye developed a popular science mini-program called "Cordyceps Introduction Assistant", which incorporates traditional Tibetan elements such as black tents. "I hope that through the AI digital platform, more people around the world can learn about the distinctive Tibetan culture and the stunning landscapes of the plateau," he said.
