The plateau is now in a critical phase of autumn harvest. All regions across Xizang are seizing fine weather to carry out field harvesting efficiently. The regional autumn harvest work is proceeding smoothly and rapidly, with the overall harvest progress surpassing 90%. According to the latest update from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Xizang Autonomous Region, Xizang’s grain output in 2026 is projected to stay above 1.1 million tonnes, maintaining a sound momentum of stable grain production and bumper harvests.

As of October 8, remarkable progress has been achieved in grain harvesting across Xizang. A total of 2.8666 million mu (about 191,100 hectares) of grain fields have been reaped, accounting for 94.96% of the total grain sown area. Qingke (highland barley), the staple grain crop, has seen an even faster harvest pace. 2.2536 million mu (about 150,200 hectares) of qingke fields have been harvested, making up 96.07% of its total sown area. The plateau farmlands are witnessing a plentiful autumn harvest.

The stable grain output is attributed to scientific and refined agricultural management practices. This year, Xizang has fully implemented the Implementation Plan for the 2026 Large-area Yield Boost Campaign for Grain and Oil Crops of the Xizang Autonomous Region, advancing integrated development of fertile farmland, improved crop varieties, modern farm machinery and advanced farming techniques. Mechanized harvesting has been widely promoted locally, while subsidy policies for qingke cultivation have been refined to boost overall farming productivity.

Meanwhile, Xizang has coordinated agricultural technicians at four administrative levels—regional, prefectural, county and township, to work on the frontlines of farmlands. Full-coverage technical guidance is provided focusing on key farming links including grain yield improvement, scientific fertilization and green prevention and control of plant diseases and pests.
