At 22:33 on October 22, a magnitude-7.0 earthquake jolted Baqen County, Nagqu City,southwest China's Xizang Autonomouos Region. Right after the quake, Hu Changsheng, Secretary of the Party Committee of Xizang Autonomous Region, and Karma Tseten, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Xizang Autonomous Region, went to the regional stability maintenance command post for emergency coordination and deployment.

Hu Changsheng subsequently headed to the disaster site overnight to direct earthquake relief work. He stressed that it is imperative to thoroughly implement the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping, uphold the principle of putting people and their lives first, verify disaster conditions as soon as possible, spare no effort in search and rescue and medical treatment of the injured, speed up repairs to damaged infrastructure, properly resettle affected residents, guard against various secondary disasters, and earnestly safeguard people's lives and property.
