Chhojum Gurung, a resident from Nepal, achieved a significant milestone by becoming the 10,000th passenger to pass through the newly opened Letse Port in Drongba county of the Xizang autonomous region, as reported by Xizang Daily.
The Letse Port, linking Drongba with Nechung in Mustang county of Nepal, opened in November 2023. It is the fourth land port in the region.
Since its inauguration, the Letse Port has been steadfast in its commitment to promoting high-quality development and extensive openness to the outside world.
After completing immigration and customs procedures, Chhojum Gurung was honored by border police officers with a traditional ceremonial scarf and awarded a prestigious commemorative certificate, marking a historic moment for the port's increasing traffic.
Through innovative management strategies and the optimization of customs clearance processes, the port checkpoint has introduced a series of convenient and beneficial services, including a dedicated green channel for livestock inspection.
The Letse Port contributes to improving Xizang's port layout, establishing a comprehensive pattern of opening to the outside world, and sustaining the development of foreign economic and trade cooperation.
Moreover, it plays a pivotal role in constructing an open channel to South Asia and promoting economic cooperation around the Himalayas, thereby advancing the high-quality construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.
The port has eight passenger and two vehicle inspection channels for entry and exit travelers. It symbolizes increasing connectivity and cooperation between China and Nepal, ushering in a new era of cultural and economic exchange.
