As one of the few places that are rich in highland barley and rape, Xide Village of Pulan County, Ngari Prefecture, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, actively develops characteristic industries based on resource conditions, industrial base and the needs of the masses.
To ensure the sales channels of highland barley, a Tsampa processing plant is established to purchase raw materials such as highland barley, rapeseed and peas from local villagers to make Tsampa, rapeseed oil, bread and other products, which not only promotes agricultural efficiency, but also increases farmers' income.
"There are more than 1160 mu (about 77.3 hectares) of farmland in Xide Village. The Tsampa processing plant can purchase about 100,000 kilograms of highland barley from the villagers.” Says Palbar Tsering, the Party branch secretary of Xide Village.
"Since the establishment of the Tsampa processing plant, I don't have to worry about sales anymore, and the price they offered is also satisfactory. I farm 11 mu of land (about 0.73 hectares), and more than 1,000 kg of highland barley have been sold this year with 5,000 more yuan." Says Tsering Basang, a Xide villager.
By expanding grain sales channels and adopting collective farmland management, this year, the yield of highland barley in Xide Village has realized an increase of 5.2% over last year, which inspires farmers’ enthusiasm for farming and promotes rural revitalization.
