Tibet: technological innovation raises income

Farming and animal husbandry are basic industries for Tibet's economy. It is important to develop Tibet's modern farming and animal husbandry and improve the efficiency.

In recent years, China's Tibet strives to enhance the capability for technological innovation of farming and animal husbandry. The transformation and application of the new research also get great improvement. The popularizing rate of science and technology is 90 percent. The technological innovation becomes the core for increasing traditional farming and animal husbandry's added value and beneficial for farmers and herdsmen.

Dawa, a farmer in Lhorong County of Qamdo, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, said that he had planted 16 mu (1.06 hectares) of highland barely and harvested more than 6,000 kilograms last year. Some were left for his family’s food ration, the other sold to tsampa industry.

Thanks to the large spending of technological innovation on highland barely, the output of highland barely has seen a great increase. With further processing, highland barely beer and highland barely drinks are sold at both home and abroad, greatly increasing the added value of highland barely. Besides, technological innovation plays a leading role in upgrading Tibet's traditional farming and animal husbandry. The tsampa industry in Lhorong County usually buys farmers' highland barely with higher price. Through transformation and application of the fruits of science and technology. Farmers' income gets great enhancement.

Technology innovation covering featured agricultural products, animal products and gardening gets great achievements in recent years. Technology innovation becomes an important motivation for developing farming and animal husbandry.

Five featured breeding bases for animals were built in Yadong, Rutok, Gonjo, Nyingchi and Lhasa. The construction of various innovation platforms lays a sold foundation for the increasing of traditional farming and animal husbandry's added value.

Based on the development of bases, the technological system of Tibet's farming and animal husbandry with highland features motivated by technological innovation is gradually formed.

In 2016, the total output of Tibet's leading companies dealing with farming and animal husbandry was 2.87 billion yuan. The industrialization rate of farming and animal husbandry was 42 percent.
