Armed rebellion staged by the upper-class reactionaries of Tibet

In the spring of 1956 riots broke out in Litang, Garze and the Kham region. On July 21 rebels began a rampage of sabotage and looting along the Kham-Tibet Highway. The picture shows a damaged bridge on the Kham-Tibet Highway.

On June 24, 1958, Adruktsang Gonpo Tashi set up a command in Shannan, and announced establishment of the "The four rives and six ranges religious guard." The picture shows an order from the so-called "Tibet anti-Communist religion defense army."

On July 24, 1956, more than 300 rebels besieged the PLA garrison and representative's office in Cakalho County. The CPC work committee to Ningjing County came under attack on August1. Rebels also launched assaults on geological prospecting teams, Soviet Union experts and military supply depots in Toba and Gyamda. Bloody violence against PLA soldiers and local people supported by kasha were reported across Tibet. By August 1958 more than 70 cases against civilians were filed. The picture shows remains of a PLA soldier whose heart was gouged out by rebels and a Tibetan man whose nose and upper lip were sliced off by rebels.
