It is reported from the education department of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region that, over the past 30 years, 32,116 qualified builders for the development of Tibetan economy and society have been trained, among which there are 15,159 college graduates, 4,840 normal college graduates, 6,870 secondary specialized school graduates and 5,247 secondary vocational school graduates.
In the 1980s, because of the lack of talents and the relatively weak of education in Tibet, leaders of the Party Central Committee and the State Council have made the critical decision of the inland Tibetan schools.The first group of primary school graduates from Tibet, among which the Tibetan makes up the majority, went to inland for study in the September of 1985, opening the new educational model in Tibet’s history. At present, normal middle schools and secondary vocational schools in 21 metropolises and provinces such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangdong hosts the inland Tibetan schooling, totaling 137 and having 18,100 students at school.
Ma Shengchang, the head of the education department of Tibet Autonomous Region, said that the inland Tibetan school is the pioneering undertaking of the national education in China, which is also the latest achievement of China’s educational reform and development in new times. Besides, the graduates from the inland Tibetan schools have already been the main power for promoting the leap development and maintaining the social stability.
Nowadays, most of the inland Tibetan school graduates, accounting for 1% of the whole population in Tibet that is 3.12million, become the dominant force in many fields. In addition, the inland Tibetan schools also have the support from its relative cities and provinces which are putting into the special fund for meeting the demand from the students learning in the inland Tibetan schools, in their study, living and medicine. Moreover, the subsidy for per student is over 8000 yuan.
