Recently, according to the Tourism Development Department of Tibet Autonomous Region, in the first quarter of this year, Tibet received 1.71 million tourists from home and abroad, realizing a year-on-year increase of 241.1%, and up 23.5% over the same period in 2019. The total tourism revenue reached 1.378 billion yuan RMB, realizing a year-on-year increase of 309.7%. Among them, 1,101,000 were "one-day tour" tourists, up 442.1% year on year.

"Since January this year, scattered cases of the epidemic (COVID-19) occurred frequently throughout the country, with five high-risk areas and 62 areas at moderate risk. The impact of the epidemic on the tourism economy continued. Statistics on the national tourism industry showed a trend of high and then low, and it would take time for tourism to fully recover," said Wang Songping, the director of the Tourism Development Department of Tibet Autonomous Region, "under the overall trend of the epidemic development and control, April was a period of combination of epidemic control and market recovery. However, affected by the fluctuation of the epidemic, consumers' willingness to travel in groups should be continuously cultivated in the short term, and inbound tourism would also experience a long period of blind spot. The trend of year-on-year increase in the total amount of tourism reception and the affiliated economic income in Tibet would continue. At the same time, the fluctuation of the epidemic also posed a severe challenge to the targeted research on tourism policies and the deployment of relevant measures, the overall control difficulty increased as well."

Wang Songping said that in the next step, Tibet would continue to innovate various work measures, especially to accelerate the development of rural tourism, enrich the tourism products with Tibetan characteristics, give priority to guiding the circulation of the local tourism market, promote the high-quality recovery of tourism, and achieve high-quality development.
