"Southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region is a magical place where you can find new artistic insights no matter where you come from," said Liu Yang, associate professor of the Department of Fine Arts of the School of Art of Xizang University and member of the Xizang Artists Association.
In 2016, Liu Yang came to Xizang as an aid-Xizang teacher and became an art teacher at Lhasa Middle School for one year. When coming to Xizang for the first time, the beautiful snow mountains, glaciers, and lakes along the way fascinated Liu Yang and inspired him to create Xizang landscape paintings in the way of traditional Chinese painting. "I want to integrate all my perception of Xizang into my art." Said Liu Yang.
But there are so many things he wants to do that one year is simply not enough time. So he extended the aid-Xizang period, and applied for a transfer to work in Xizang in the third year. Later, Liu Yang became a teacher of traditional Chinese painting at the School of Art of Xizang University. He encourages his students to express their attachment and love for their hometown through bold creative concepts and imagination in their works.
Zanda Soil Forest in Ngari Prefecture is one of his favorite painting themes, and he has been there several times. "The magical soil forest is a gift from nature to the plateau. Every time I look at it, I have a different feeling."
Liu Yang has lived in Xizang for eight years. In 2023, nearly 100 of his landscapes and natural works created in Xizang were exhibited. "They are not only my works, but also my pursuit of traditional Chinese painting art, as well as my persistence and perception of Xizang's natural scenery." Liu Yang said he wanted to show earth-shaking changes and people's happy life in Xizang.
