There are many Tibetan knife smiths in Lhatse County, Shigatse City, Tibet Autonomous Region and the total number is about 80 households.
Tibetan knife is mainly used to eat meat before. Now with the development of the times, Tibetan knife has many functions such as decoration, production, livelihood and commodity transaction.
As famous Tibetan knife, Lhatse Tibetan knife is divided into two different types, namely the Zilung Tibetan knife forged in Zilung Town, Lhatse County, Shigatse City and the Lhatse Tibetan knife forged in the old Lhatse County.
Zilung Tibetan knife is listed as the state-level intangible cultural heritage and its inheritor Tseten wangyel is named as state-level inheritor. Lhatse Tibetan knife is listed as the Tibet Autonomous Region level intangible cultural heritage and its inheritor is Pudawa.
