Since the enforcement of 12th Five-Year Plan, Tibet's culture industry has entered an important historic period of all-round prosperity and development. At the moment, there are over 4,000 professional theatrical troupes and county-level art groups in Tibet. With an investment of 904 million yuan (135.1 million U.S. dollars), 543 town-level comprehensive culture stations, 39 rehearsal places for county-level art groups, 19 libraries, mass art galleries and museums have been built. In addition, 4,126 companies deals with culture industry, employing about 30,000 workers.
Tibet has poured 904 million yuan (135.1 million U.S. dollars) into the construction of public cultural infrastructures including 543 town-level comprehensive culture stations, 39 rehearsal places for county-level art groups, 19 libraries, mass art galleries and museums. By the end of 2015, all cities in Tibet have libraries, mass art galleries and museums. Comprehensive cultural activity centers are seen in all counties. Comprehensive cultural stations are available in towns. The overall number of public facilities built in the period of 12th Five-Year Plan is 593 more than that of 11th Five-Year Plan. Currently, Tibet has formed a four-level network of public cultural facilities.
Furthermore, one branch center of culture information-shared project, four city-level centers, 74 county-level centers, 692 town-level grass-roots points and over 5,300 grass-roots points in villages have been built, strengthening the construction of public digital culture. As the border areas’ digital culture gallery project has been launched, a series of digital culture resources like “King Gesar multimedia resources” and about 1,000-hour excellent Tibetan-version cultural resources are completed.
Public cultural facilities in Tibet are free to the public, which improves the service capacity of public culture. The number of annual well-organized public art activity reaches over 8,400.
With the implementation of cultural industry items’ driving strategy, 18 key projects costing more than three billion yuan have been started. There are two state-level cultural industry demonstration bases, one experimental park and 14 region-level demonstration bases are built. A batch of theatrical items such as “Princes Wencheng” and “Happiness on the Way” have been made on the stage, achieving great social and economic benefits.
The annual Tibet Thangka Art Expo has been held for five consecutive years. Besides, 56 culture companies were organized to participate in several national great expos in Beijing and Shenzhen.
Thanks to the protection of cultural relics, 46 maintenance and protection projects of key cultural relics have been launched. At the moment, there are 4,277 cultural relics in Tibet, of which there are one world culture heritage site, 55 state-level units, 391 region-level spots and three state-level famous historical and culture cities.
Tibetan opera, King Gesar, folk singing and dancing and other traditional arts got salvage protections. Distinctive artistic technologies such as Thangka and Tibetan incenses are inherited. Lhasa River basin and Shigatse’s Gyirong where is home to many intangible cultural heritages have been protected in an all-round way gradually.
Over the past five decades, there are over 4,000 original works created by Tibet’s professional theatrical troupes and county-level art groups. Besides, over 200 performances and exhibitions in more than 80 domestic and overseas cities were held, showing the great achievements in Tibetan cultural protection and development.
