Since the beginning of the protection project for intangible cultural heritage in 2005, the Tibetan opera as a major item has been preseved, promoted and developed. Currently, there are over 80 performance troupes of traditional dramas.
It is known that the Tibetan opera, as the “living fossil”, has been included in UNESCO’s Masterpiece of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The first part-time training class of the Tibetan opera, in the Tibet Regional art gallery, has been opened to the public since June this year. This training class employed the state first-class artist of the Tibet Reginal drama, the professor from Tibet University and the members of the Tibet intangible heritage committee as teachers, whcih provides a professional training platform for Tibetan opera lovers and attracts many enthusiasts to join.
